Surrounded by the Holzhausen Park and its pond, the Holzhausenschlösschen (»Little Holzhausen Palace«) is located at the heart of Frankfurt’s North End. Since 1989 it has been home to the Frankfurter Bürgerstiftung (Frankfurt Citizens’ Foundation), which has had a profound influence on the city’s cultural life together with its main supporting foundations, the Cronstett- und Hynspergischen Evangelische Stiftung and the Ernst Max von Grunelius-Stiftung. The goal of the Bürgerstiftung is the support and implementation of almost 300 cultural events per year as well as numerous special projects, research on the history of the city of Frankfurt am Main, commissioning the corresponding scientific studies, regular publications as well as landmark preservation work in Frankfurt. In 2013 the bylaws were amended to add the foundation purposes of social and environmental work. The newly renovated and acoustically improved chamber music hall (Grunelius Hall) offers extraordinary acoustics and listening pleasure. Thus, a broad range of concerts by international ensembles and soloists has found a stage on the small cultural island. From chamber music concerts to song recitals featuring ancient and contemporary music to jazz and pop bands and theatre performances, insightful lectures, readings and exhibitions as well as regular children’s events, the Frankfurter Bürgerstiftung’s programme is colourful and diverse. It owes its major contributions to the city’s cultural life to the active generosity of Frankfurt’s citizens.
