Simon Steen-Andersen, born in Odder (Denmark) in 1976, studied composition with Karl Aage Rasmussen in Århus, Mathias Spahlinger in Freiburg, Gabriel Valverde in Buenos Aires, as well as Bent Sørensen and Hans Abrahamsen in Copenhagen. He has received numerous stipends and awards, most recently the Music Prize of the Berlin Academy of the Arts in 2013, and commissions from internationally renowned festivals and ensembles. In 2010 he was a guest of the DAAD Berlin Artist Programme. He teaches at the Royal Music Academy in Århus and is one of the co-editors of the Danish journal autograf.org. During the 2013-14 season he was visiting professor at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo. Simon Steen-Andersen’s oeuvre is very heterogeneous, including compositions for soloists, ensembles and orchestra (occasionally using unusual additional instruments, everyday objects and various electro-acoustic media) and audiovisual installations. His music often has a theatrical dimension created by the performers’ actions on stage.
